MYBREATH MOBILE APP INCLUDED IN SAN FRANCISCO WELLNESS COACHING PROGRAM
WALNUT CREEK, CA– Breath Research, Inc. (BRI) is collaborating with the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) to bring free wellness coaching to underserved populations. The CIIS Integrative Wellness Coaching and Leadership Pilot Project, made possible with support from the Aetna Foundation, aims to reduce obesity and chronic illness and promote healthy behaviors among the 450 low-income residents of the 10th and Mission Family Housing community in San Francisco.
The IHL faculty will provide integrative wellness coaching, wellness workshops, and leadership programs. The wellness coaching sessions and workshops will be on topics including nutrition and healthful meal preparation, exercise and fitness, coping with stress, and pain management.
“This is a simple yet highly effective app for stress reduction.” says Dr. Meg Jordan, Department Chair and Professor, CIIS. “We find this app so elegant – we’re excited about having our graduate student-wellness coaches utilize it. MyBreath overcomes the cognitive and cultural barriers that are often encountered in the instruction of brief de-stressing techniques.”
MyBreath can quickly generate an overall assessment of breathing patterns and stress level called a BRI score and report. Using proprietary technology and the standard headset that comes with an iPhone, the app also provides audio-mirroring feedback and coaching on mindful breathing techniques, allowing each user to easily record, track and monitor their progress and improvement on an iOS device. Breathing sessions are easily shared with a wellness or fitness professional.
“It’s wonderful to get acknowledgement of optimal breathing as a vital component overall health, wellness and fitness. We are so pleased to participate in this wellness coaching program,” states Nirinjan Yee, founder of BRI. “The app will work very well for both the Mission Family Housing study participants and the wellness coaches. BRI is happy to provide training for the wellness coaches on how to integrate MyBreath into their work with a diverse population that has multiple needs and concerns.
The MyBreath app is currently available in iTunes for consumers and health/fitness professionals for use with the iPod, iPod Touch and iPad. BRI Training is available for all professionals who want to incorporate breathing pattern analysis, tracking and training into their practice.
BRI is actively working plans for future studies, partnerships, and integration with other fitness/wellness apps as well as custom MyBreath accessories.
